sorry about posting another bag thread, but i have looked through the long sticky thread, and still cannot decide.

i have a 15" sleeve, and the incase laptop bag, but i am looking for something that will hold my laptop without a sleeve, the charger, and have room for about 2-3 3 subject notebooks. this will allow me to carry just one bag to class for everything.

i dont really like the sleeve in backpack, because its kind of a hassle to take a sleeve out, then unzip it, before i can get a hold of my laptop.

i have been looking at crumpler and timbuk2 (messenger bags), both of which look really cool, but i am am unsure on the spacing. i know which ones fit the 15" powerbook, but i NEED some extra space to bring notebooks to class too.

can anyone give me some advice please!!

thanks in advance
jonathan

I have the Timbuk2 Commute for my 15" and like it a lot. It has great pockets for cables and charger and things. The 'book fits perfectly in the padded slot and it has a little velcro flap that you can lock it in with, or not if you prefer to be able to pull it right out. I don't recommend it for carrying very thick books, because it does tend to get a little bulky. I would say the maximum width of books I'd want to put in it is about 2.5-3". This should be enough for the notebooks you want, but if you have to carry anything else, especially bulky items, like a sweater or something, you may run out of room.

That said, I was on the road with it as my carry-on for four months and somehow survived. It was definitely nice to have everything in such a slim bag.

One last little annoyance with it: it doesn't stand up vertically very well, it tends to flop over, especially with a laptop in it. But if you can lean it against a table or chair leg or something, it's no big deal.
