I just replaced my 1.0 Ghz Tibook with a new 1.67 Ghz Powerbook. After booting the new machine up, I opted to move everything over from my old machine. After doing so, I booted up the new machine and the menu bar acted strangely: it would blick every few seconds and any effort to click on an icon failed. After talking to Applecare, I erased my hard drive and reinstalled the operating system.
Next, I only moved my documents and network settings over (I did not move any applications over). Now my desktop files and folders behave strangely. If I right click or control click on any file, I no longer get a pop up window within which I could, for example, trash the file. Instead, all of the files and folders disappear simultaneously after about two seconds and then simultaneously reappear about two seconds later. The dock and the menu items stay intact. I can still launch files from my desktop, I just can't invoke a right click or a control click.
Applecare is suggesting that I invoke disk first aid on my operating system (from the install disks). Any thoughts?
