I'm about to join the iBook family and was wondering a few things about the hard drive.

First of all, will I be voiding the warranty by replacing it? And second, where can I find instructions on how to do it?

I swapped out the HD on my G4 Powerbook (may it rest in peice) and want to take the 60 gig out of it and put it in my new iBook.

Thanks.

If you replace the hard drive yourself, you will void your warranty. You may be able to have an authorized service center do it for you without voiding the warranty, but I'm not sure about that.

Here's a page that shows how to do it though...in French:

Yeah... that looks a little involved.

Crap. I'm not sure what I want to do now. I had a Powerbook G4/400 that just got it's screen destroyed and I had upgraded the HD to a 60 gig. I figured swapping out the iBook drive wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Guess I'll have to use an external drive to house all of my music. That sucks. Maybe when my warranty is over I'll take the whole thing apart and upgrade, but until than, I don't think I want to mess with it.

it's not hard to do. I just disassembled my ibook.

When I say not hard, I mean not hard.

I can't disagree more. When I was working as a technician, I always hated doing iBooks, because it involves about 40 tiny screws, which have to removed and replaced in a very specific order. I don't recommend doing it yourself.

Indeed, the Wallstreet, Lombard, and Pismo G3s, along with TiBooks, made HD replacement super-simple. All iBooks and AlBooks share the nightmarish disassembly.

So Tooki...

Did you ever have to replace the screen on a TiBook? How hard is that?
