For a 1.33Ghz 12" PB? I don't do any hardcore video/photo editing. Just the run of the mill web surfing, iTunes, e-mail, iCal, DVD's and some basic iPhoto stuff.

The 1GB would put me up to 1.25GB,while the 512MB would give 768MB. Would 768MB give me enough RAM to play most games? Nothing too intense like Halo, but maybe Rise of Nations or something like it.

There is just a huge jump in price between the 1GB and the 512MB RAM sticks.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but when I searched the forums all I found was which brand to buy, etc.

TIA.

It is amazing how many times people ask this question. I wish we could make it a sticky at the top of the forum. I've said it before in posts and I'll say it again:

MORE RAM IS *ALWAYS* BETTER!

Modern operating systems like OS X *love* RAM. They just can't get enough of it. The rule of thumb is more is better and get as much as you can afford. Even if today you don't think you need it for what you are doing, you'll appreciate it when you want to have more programs open at the same time or run more advanced programs.

I'm sure others will ask this again in the future. I'll just keep restating it.

When I ordered my 12" PB I decided since it only has one RAM slot it only made sense to get the biggest chip. If you get 512 + 256 built in and find 768 is not enough you will have to sell the 512 and put in a 1024. It is easier to just max out from the beginning if you can afford it.

Of course I have since learned from this forum I should have got the RAM elsewhere and not Apple direct and that this has delayed my PB order
