I updated to 10.3.8 using the combo after doing a Repair Permissions and of course running it after the update. No external devices were attached.

When I power on my iBook for about 5 seconds the fan revs at high speed then stops, the startup chime happens and then the normal startup occurs. Outside of this strange phenomenon nothing else odd happens. When using my iBook the fan behaves normally.

I ran a hardware test and everything is fine. So it seems what ever "fan fix" Apple included in this update for G5's may have effected my iBook in this way.

Has anyone else noticed something like this?
PowerBook 12" Combo 1.5Ghz 1.25GB Ram 100GB HDD - Yep it's PPC! I'll wait for the 3rd generation MacTel when they're at their best :)

So I'm guessing of the 40 viewers so far no-one has heard or seen this?

As they say "oh well time to sell and get a Dell"

I'm not having this issue. But I do find it hard to believe you are going to sell it and get a Dell just because your fan revs when you turn it on.

I heard the fan turns on earlier because the temperature threshold was lowered in the update to keep temps lower.

I don't see the problem either; your iBook gives you a nice, loud chord when you turn it on, too. My Dell laptop tends to turn its fan on at apparently random times, and it's pretty loud compared to an iBook fan-I've never really heard the iBook fan!
