My airport card disappeared 10 days before the warranty ran out. and it turns out the logic board is bad. I have a 1Ghz 17", what are the chances they slap in a 1.33 or 1.5 Ghz. Anyone ever get an updated logic board?

The part should be in today and I should have it by Friday. I couldn't sqeeze any info out of the support technician over the phone.

Probably none. They refurbish parts and send them out for install into other customers' machines. May want to consider Applecare, though, if you're planning on keeping it for another year or two.

On rare occasion, when an older part is no longer available AND the newer part is fully compatible, they will swap a better one. (I've seen this with CPU cards for some Power Macs, and it's fairly common with hard drive replacements to get a larger one.)

But in some cases, like the iBook logic boards, where the demand for spare parts far exceeds the supply, they will actually do another production run of old hardware!

I wish they'd give you the option to pay the difference. Since the screen resolution and port positions haven't changed I imagine they could put a 1.5 in there. A 1.33 would give me a 9600 vid chipset and USB 2.0, plus the new, cooler, onchip cached processor. Good Karma and being in Europe may be on my side. Guess we'll see on Friday.

Got the same logicboard 1Ghz, everything checks out fine though. I guess I saved my good Karma for something else.

There are always case design changes between revs of products, mostly because of new thermal requirements. There is slim to no chance that a newer logic board would be put in an older case because the thermal system or the case design itself would not handle the newer board. Even if you don't see the differences, it's pretty much a given that they are present.
