Ok, i know this is getting picky, but i want to take EVERY precaution with my new powerbook (which is still "open" status 7 days and counting)...

With the iskin keyboard protector, is it better to...

A. Use it while you type to absorb your finger oils and protect your keyboard from lint while your screen is up (and take the iskin off when your pb is closed?)

or

B. Use the laptop with the iskin off, and put it on to protect the screen from finger oils (when the screen is closed)

or

C. Never ever take the iskin off.

or

D. Never ever use the iskin

Also, is the iskin completely clear? If not, does it affect the clarity/coolness factor of the lights in the keyboard?

THanks for the help!

I keep mine on except when I wash it, about once a week (mostly to get any dust that stuck to it off). It's not perfectly clear but I can still work with the backlit keys (rev c 17). I also have a radtech screensaver cloth that I use when taking the PB on the move.

I leave my iSkin on all of the time, since I got it to prevent dirt from getting in the keyboard. I use my PowerBook everywhere, sometimes when I'm eating, and the iSkin lets me not worry about getting junk in the keyboard.

When I close my PowerBook, I use a RadTech screen protector (it's just a piece of cloth that covers the keyboard and trackpad so that nothing besides the cloth comes into contact with the display. I use this in addition to the iSkin.

The iSkin is not completely clear; it has somewhat of a frosted texture to it. I have a titanium PowerBook so I couldn't tell you what it looks like on the silver keyboard, but on my black keyboard, it does make it look a bit lighter. It doesn't look bad though. It probably blends in a lot better on the silver keyboard. I don't see why there would be any problem with the lighting.

Since I've had the iSkin, I now like the feel of the keyboard much better with it on then with it off. It's much quieter to type with it on, too.

I'd like to add to this post...
I remember seeing the Iskin in one of the Mac magazines and thought it was a great idea. I totally forgot about it until i saw this thread. Right after i saw this ad, i went and placed an order.

I live in Canada and iskin.com is based out of Toronto... so shipping was super fast. Got here 2-3 days after i ordered and it works great...

Really helps in protecting the keyboarding.

Did anyone notice any difference in operating temperature when using the iskin? That would be my only concern.

Never thought about it... but taken from the iskin website..

http://www.iskin.com/faq_protouchPB.html

Does the iSkin Keyboard Protector promote heat buildup in the iBook and PowerBook?

No. Tests performed on the iBook and PowerBook G4 show that no considerable heat buildup that exceed normal operational temperatures, are caused by leaving the keyboard protector on at all times. These tests were conducted for a period of 8 to 10 hours per day for several months of normal use of the units in normal operational conditions. If for any reason this is of concern, simply remove the iSkin Keyboard Protector before closing your iBook or PowerBook or when typing is not necessary.

Yeah, I read that on their website. I was just curious what real Powerbook owners were seeing.

Hello all

this is my first post here, i just ordered my first apple, a powerbook 15" 1.67ghz, its supposed to arrive in 2 days, but now i also want to order an iskin keyboard protector, but im not sure which color is best to get with regards to the backlit keyboard, can anyone give me an insight on which is best over the lit keyboard, the blue, the green, or the clear. Logically the clear would be the best, but will the blue make the light glow more?

thanks a lot

I didn't like the iskin...just could not get used to typing with it. Now I just use a Shaggymac screen protector for added screen protection.
