OMG.
I was just taking a look at Apple's hardware dev notes for the new 15" PowerBook. When I saw this page I realized that the 20" ACD's native resolution of 1680x1050 was not mentioned in the table listing supported digital resolutions.
Does this mean the new PowerBooks won't be able to deliver native resolution on the 20"? I can't believe it, but I'd prefer hearing from somebody who actually has this setup running. I'd hate to have a fuzzy 1280x800 on my 20" ACD.

That sucks!!!!! I'm sure if the 12" could drive it a 15" could drive it too, so I wouldn't fret over it too much. I'm sure/hope it's not the case.

I was wondering about this myself. I have an older 20" ACD, so it would need a converter from DVI. I just ordered a 12" PB and never thought about it driving my ACD until reading this. It is connected to my dual 867 at the moment.

Well, I can't imagine it either, heck my 15 month old rev B 12" can display native 1680x1050 to my 20" ACD.
But since my $2500 order is still open, I want to make sure I can continue to use my 20" ACD at a decent resolution and quality before it ships. No way I'm buying a $1000 more expensive PB, just to find out it can't display properly to the ACD.

Apple didn't list the supported digital resolutions for the 12" so I can't tell you. But 1680x1050 isn't listed in the 12" analog resolution table either...

Put it this way guys...if the Mac mini could drive a 20" screen, your PB could drive a 20" screen. I really wouldn't worry about this, I'm sure you'll be fine.

But why would Apple explicitly not mention this?

Don't worry.
My 12" Powerbook is connected to my 20" ACD and the display settings are set to 1680x1050. The Color LCD is listed as displaying at 1024x768.
The ACD is looks great looks great with the Cubist Reality desktop.
Want a screenshot of the Cinema Display dialog box?

Well my 12" is working great with my 20" ACD too. That's not really what I'm worried about.
I'm wondering if the 15" PowerBook will display the 20" ACD's native 1680x1050 too. Apple lists a whole bunch of digital output resolutions for the new 15" PowerBook, but the ACD's isn't there.

Sorry I'm a Apple noob and I'm having trouble setting up my 20" ACD. I have a 12" PB and I want to run the 20" ACD at it's native resolution and the image to 'stretch' the entire screen. When I run the ACD at native resolution, the picture is in 4:3 format and there are black bars around the picture. I can run the ACD at a lower resolution with the image stretched but all the icons are skewed. Is there anyway to run the 20" ACD properly?
Thanks in advance.

And just to answer my own original question in case anybody is wondering:
The new 1.67 GHz 15" PowerBook supports the native 1680x1050 of the 20" ACD - I'm using it that way right now. Apple still doesn't mention it in their hardware developer manuals, but it's there.

My RevA 15" runs a 20"ACD at native resolution. No problems here, makes me think about getting a second one for the PB
