I bought 256MB of RAM from Crucial for my 1.2GHz iBook (using their 'memory advisor') and it isn't showing up on my system. I looked in the system profiler and ran the hardware test, but my machine seems to be blissfully unaware of the new RAM.

Does this mean my RAM is faulty? Is there anything else it could be (not installed properly, a problem with my iBook, etc)?

I am sorry if it is obvious, but I have never installed RAM (or anything else for that matter) before.

Are you absolutely sure the memory is completed seated in the slot? Some times you have to push it in there a lot harder than you might think. At least I hope it's that simple!

I am not really sure if it is properly in there or not. When I push it into the slot it snaps into place, but it is still a little loose (easily pulled sideways out of the slot). I have tried to push it down or further in but it isn't budging.

The SODIMM slides in and then pivots down flat. If you didn't pivot it down, it's not really in properly. Give that a try...
