i recently had my ibook sent back to apple to fix the logic board. i get it back and now the hard drive is dead..do for right now while waiting to take it back again to get fixed im wondering if there is a way to install osx on my external f/w drive and just use that. mind you i dont want to erase anything on the drive. is there anyway to do this. i am some what new to the mac world.just switched over a bit ago. and this is not to pleasing and not making me want to stick with mac. i have a spare HD laying around. but i opened up the ibook and couldnt see heads or tails of how to swap the drives. any help would be wonderful...
thank you

Uh...opening the iBook voids your Applecare unless it doesn't look like you opened it ofcourse. If you're using the external, just plug your external in and pop the restore DVD that came with your 'book in your machine. Power it on and install the software onto your external drive instead of your local HD (should give you an option on which drive to install it on). After that you should be set as long as you use the external to boot off of.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

iPartition can partition a drive without erasing the data already on the drive, but it costs $45...
