Can anyone share their experience using the new PBs with 30" inch Cinema display?

I am considering getting a fully loaded 15'er for use with a 30" Cinema. The most intensive tasks I'd probably be doing would be working on 8MB image files (from a canon 20D) in Photoshop CS. I also might watch a DVD or two on it.

I'm just curious if the PB's can really drive this monitor with grace or if there are any real world issues anyone might have run in to.
Ordered:
15" - 1.67GHz 100GB 2GB 128MB
30" Cinema Display

In a very non-scientific study, I ran the iTunes visualizer with OpenGL on and frame rate capping turned off while connected to a 30" Cinema. It sustained at 30-32 fps and peaked at 50-60 occasionally. Not bad, but not the #1 benchmark to go by.

Well, I've ordered it. We'll see how it works out; i'll post my experience whenever i get the stuff. I'm open to getting a g5 PM at a latter point if I'm not satisfied with this set up.

Any idea what the fps would be with one of the dual g5 PM's?

Well that's not saying much, as I only get about 22-30 fps in the large itunes visualizer on my 17" native screen.

Just a random question- how exactly do you connect a 30" cinema to a PB? I thought that the 30" cinema required 2 DVI cables to connect, that is why you need to buy the $600 video card for the powermac? Because it has that DDL capability and 2 DVI ports on the back? But the PB only has 1 DVI-out and 1 video out... so how does that work?

The 30" requires a dual-link DVI port, which is present on the new 15" PowerBook with the 128 MB graphics card and comes stock on the new 17" PowerBook. The G5 tower's GeForce 6800 card has two dual-link ports that can drive two 30" displays if needed.

Som basic info on DVI is here:
