I have Motion installed on my PB. It's okay. It's choppier the more layers added to the project. I have to do a lot of RAM previews. My PB has 1.5 GB of RAM. I have a friend with a SP G5 1.8 and it works similarly. I don't think you can get the true fluidity of the app unless you're using a dual G5 and an ATI 9800.

thanks for the info!
To compare with After Effects, does Motion feel "faster" on your PB?

I plan to buy a dual G5 with 4 GB of RAM and the best Video card, but I am considering a PB now (with max RAM = 2GB) as I might get a new job where they will have a destop.

I've got motion on both my 1.5GHz powerbook and my 2.0GHz dual G5 (2.5 GB RAM). It works fine on both platforms, but obviously much quicker and smoother on the dual G5.
I gotta have more cowbell.

If you're going to be heavy into Motion, I would spare yourself and get the dual processor Power Mac G5.

The Motion trial on my 1.25GHz/1GB AlBook was really quite an exercise in frustration. It's a great app, but it really demands massively powerful hardware. I agree that a Dual G5 with the fastest GPU you can get is really the way to go.

I was playing with Motion at the local Apple store on a dual 2.5GHz G5 with 3.5GB of RAM, and it was still choppy and unresponsive at times. (Could have been drives, too, I suppose!)

Yo, I understand very well that a dual with a LOT of ram + video power would be the best way to go.
But, Apple does not deliver dual G5 in laptops, not blaming them, but it is true that they create there quite a GAP between the top laptop and top desktop... was it during the G3 time that the laptop and desktop was the same? ........ good old times!

What PowerBook, and what video card on the G5 1.8? How much RAM?

I'm thinking that a single 1.8 G5 with 2 GB RAM and Radeon 9800 might actually do OK.

Now a new question:
What if I plug a 23" to my 15" PB with a 128MB graphics card?
Is Motion still working?
Anyone tried?
