is it possible for a new HD to fry the iBooks logic board.

im trying to put a seagate momentus into a G3 800 icebook

I don't think so, I presume that you did have the power off and battery removed at the time !

Aside from that static could be a problem...

Did you try putting the old HDD in again ?

no i did unplug it but before i put it all together i pluged it in to se if it worked. then logic board went about a week later. could that have been it?

If it actually worked before you plugged it all together then you probably didn't short anything that you shouldn't have.

If it worked with the new HDD then there should be no compatibility issues.

If the serial number is within the recall range then I would suspect that you have a faulty logic board - covered under the replacement programme. This seems to be an all too commmon fault. The symptoms seem to be that the ibook boots to Chime but no video output on laptop screen or (importantly) on an externally connected screen.

You really need to get it checked over professionally.

i did got it back today from the extension repaire programme
