Hi everyone.

I use one of those lightweight, long, folding tables with the plastic surface (like you can buy at office supply stores) for a desk. Recently, there's been a noticable static electricity field building up on my desk, which I assume has a lot to do with the material. I can tell the static field is there because I can feel it "pulling" on my hand when I hover my palm just above the surface. Also, any hair in the air sticks to the table (from my doggies).

My question is whether or not I should be concerned with my PowerBook and a couple LaCie external hard drives on this surface. What do you think?

Or, does anyone know how to eliminate the static buildup?

Cheers.

The static isn't going to damage your PowerBook. Your laptop's aluminum shell will act as a Faraday cage to protect the electronics inside.

If the static annoys you, cover the table in something. Better yet, paint the plastic surfaces.
