I go to UCLA and the UCLA store is currently selling the old 12 inch powerbook (superdrive) for $999 plus tax. I have already compared the specs for the old one and the new and did not find major differences. I understand the old version is a bit slower and has 256 MB instead of 512. What do you guys think? Is the new version much better than the old one? Also, I am an engineering major, are powerbooks good for engineering softwares? Is $999 a fairly good deal? Any other bits of information are also welcome!
Thanks =)

Just got back and while I was there I saw this old version of the 15 inch powerbook with superdrive for $1799 plus tax. I thought to myself....bigger screen, faster, bigger screen, bigger screen... I didn't get it right away. I wanted to report back to you guys and see what you think? Good deal?

How old?
The one that was just replaced by the most recent one.

Now that I'm thinking about it...it is exactly the same price as the new PB (15 inch combo drive). Which is better? I don't usually burn DVDs...

I was presented with the same choice. I don't burn a lot of DVDs either, and if I need to, I can do it with another DVD drive. Personally, the additional memory, better hard disk and scrolling trackpad made it worth the money to me.
