Anyone know if the new 8x SuperDrive in the new line of PowerBooks supports Dual Layer DVD+Rs? Or is it just DVD+R, not Dual Layer.

Thanks.

As far as I am aware, no Apple machines have dual layer writing support. In fact, I've heard there are no slot loading superdrives available that support dual layer, so even if Apple wanted to include them, they can't.

The Pioneer DVR-K04 is fully supported by 10.3.8 and it is a slot loading dual layer drive.

Cool, thanks. Only $100 too.

I'll have to wait a month or so, but I think I'll get one. Wonder how much my "old" SuperDrive would go on eBay?

Mitsumi's next model up of slot loading drives does dual layer. I suspect this will be included in their "Powerbook HD" some of us have speculated about. You can also purchase an internal dual layer drive at http://www.mcetech.com/pbg4dvdr8dl.html

But if you ask me it's better to just purchase an external drive and save the wear on your internal.

No Dual Layer burning in the new PowerBooks - the 845 drive supports it, but the powerbooks come with the 835.

If you get an external burner, however, Toast will support DL.
