Try holding the PB at an angle so the CD slot is pointing down. Try the various key commands to eject it, give it a slight shake to see if it'll come out.
Then give your mate a rough shake and threaten bodily harm if that's ever done again.

you got lucky that it came out so easily. I remember reading threads here about people having to take everything apart and use tweezers and such to try and extract the CD.

I had the same problem yesterday.
I had a DVD in the drive for a day or so, and then wanted to eject it and the icon dissapeared, but no DVD appeared. Not even a noise from the motors..
Oh..Oh..
First I did a restart and held down eject, nothing : except that the machine reported there was no valid DVD drive...
Then, I did a restart and while it restarted, applied a little pressure over the area where the drive is, suddenly it re-engaged and I could then eject it.
(Tell you just in case someone else has the same problem and holding the machine upside down doesn't help)
For info. this is a brand new 17" 1.5GHz, so its not a question of wear or so.
I got the feeling maybe i rested my hands on that area too much ?? The keyboard is a long way back on the 17" machine, and my arms hang over the front of the table too - time to add a stand and an external keyboard/mouse - the screen is so huge its like having a TFT on the desk.
My son (only 2) just went "WOOooohhhhhhh !!!" when he saw it.
My daughter (who's a bit commputer savvy) immediately demanded to see the teletubbies website and hear some of her music.

I've had the problem with a DVD not ejecting on my 1GHz AluBook 15. It was due to a faulty burn session. Anyway, I pressed all the buttons and did restarts, freaked, got mad, took it to a repair center (they smugly gave me a business card thinking I had no option but to eventually come back), was told it would cost hundreds of dollars to fix, got mad again, then sat down and looked at my computer and thought about it for awhile. Then the solution hit me.
Basically what I did was took that business card from the repair center, told them to go screw themselves, slid it into my DVD drive slot so it pressed against the spindle that goes in the center of the disc (on the top side to avoid touching the lens), and restarted my computer. When the computer tried to read what was in the drive, it wouldn't spin, so it spat it out.
I thought I was brilliant for that one. But then again, I'm kind of a noob...
