Will consistent non-use of the full screen in a game like ut2004 or halo damage the screen? I want to run in 1168 mode, but just not fast enough for me.

Nope, I don't see why it would. The backlight is lighting the whole screen still, it's just that all the pixels on the sides are blacked out. From the LCD's point of view it can't tell the difference between any of the res's and also what is being displayed on the screen.

No, it won't hurt the LCD.
