Last week I lent my sister my 15 inch aluminum Powerbook and, to make a long story, she dropped it on an unkind surface and dented it and scratched the case. After going through a period of wanting to get revenge by keying her car I started to use the computer again.

Now, about a week later, the latch is starting to not work correctly. It will not close and latch correctly after working fine for a few days after the drop. It will latch slightly and then if barely touched it will unlatch.

Is it worth it to try to get this fixed by Apple or is it a lost cause and should I go to some third party repair place like MacResQ in order to get this fixed. The laptop is still under warranty, seeing as I bought it last August.

If they suspect that the latch was damaged from the drop then they won't cover it under their warranty.

latch has been a problem on many 15 inchers

i think they will fix it if it is the common problem people are having which is it "sticking" and making this abnoxious rubbing noise when trying to move it
ibook 900 12.1" combo 640mb =)
powerbook 1.33 15" 768mb =P

So, if I fib a bit and tell them the drop happened a couple of months ago but the latch started misbehaving lately do you think I'd have a better shot at getting them to fix it?
