Hey all,

I just had my powerbook repaired (had problems with the lower memory slot not recognizing memory). The logic board was replaced. Now, however, my powerbook likes to (randomly) go to sleep while I'm using the machine, regardless of whether it is plugged in or not.

Anyone know if this is a common issue? Or was it a bad repair where they forgot to plug something in??

Thanks,

kash

Check Preferences > Energy Saver and see what the settings are. They may have defaulted to the automatic setting which will sleep sooner if on a battery.

You don't say which machine you have, but does the fan come on regularly? A machine will spontaneously sleep if it is overheating. If you do not hear the fan coming on, or it still happens when the fan is on, something may be wrong with the mounting and attachment of the heat sink. Take it back or send it back to where you got it repaired.

No the fan isn't coming on regularly. Looks like I'll be bringing it in to get it repaired again.. It gets so bad at times when you're trying to start up the machine that it'll keep going in and out of sleep, and gets stuck in a loop that it will never actually start up...

Anyway it's a PB 15" 1.5GHZ AL, but it seems like this is more of an isolated problem, so probably something the guys who did the repair, did wrong.

Just wanted to check to make sure that this wasn't something that was a recurring problem among PBs..

Thanks!

Sounds like whatever mechanism that detects that the PowerBook is closed (magnet?) is hosed.

Aye... does anyone know the exact details of how the powerbook detects whether it is 'closed' or not?

Would live to find a way to work around this until I have a chance to actually send it away for repair :/

Thanks,

If it is the sleep magnet or switch, there's really not much you can do other than disassembling the machine and disconnecting the sleep switch.
