My Titanium PowerBook G4/400 MHz works for the most part once it's started up, but it takes several tries to get it to start up properly. I sometimes get a blank screen, sometimes a freeze on the gray Apple screen, and sometimes get the gray "no startup disk found" screen.

I've tried reinstalling the system (10.3.8) and resetting the power manager, PRAM, and NVRAM, but I'm still having these problems. Any suggestions on what might be wrong with this machine? Thanks for any suggestions.

I would suspect RAM or your hard drive. Hold command+v at startup to go into verbose (text) mode to see precisely where the boot process is hanging.
