my powerbook is stuck on starting on osx, and osx doesn't start either totally, just gives me a bluescreen with cursor. i think i tried all shortcuts, even shift, or the force os9 startup shortcut during booting, but nothing works! when i do the shortcut that lets me choose which system i want to start on, it just shows osx, but os9 should be on there too! any suggestions?? will i lose my data if i reinstall the system?

appreciate any help anyone has to offer! =)

You don't say which Powerbook you have, but all Powerbooks made in the last 3 years will not boot up into OS 9 at all. You have a bad OS X install. Start up from your software restore disk and do an archive and install of OS X. That's your best and just about only option.

Not able to boot up in OS99 but they can boot up in Classic model and run OS9 applications.

That's not what he's asking. He's specifically talking about booting into OS 9.

Just making sure. Lots of people say OS9 when it could mean Classic. And some people could get the impression that newer Macs won't boot into Classic.

The phrase "boot into Classic" is horribly confusing. Classic is a program that you run. You can boot into OS 9 or you can run Classic, but you can't boot into Classic any more than you can boot into Chess. There's not restart or change of OS involved.

what i had to do was use the software install cds, and from there was an option to choose the start volume. only then i got the option to choose os9 again. (ouff!!)
