Planning to purchase a Powerbook 15" 1.5 ghz, only thing is with all the latest offering from PC based laptop offering Nvidia GO 6800 256mb or ATI X800 256mb video card, it is kind of disappointing the best Apple can offer is a ATI 9700 64mb or 128mb. I have a dual 2GHz G5 Powermac for design work. A better laptop would allow me to bring work home. Just that coming from a Powermac, not sure if the Powerbook can cut it's mustard.
My working files can sometimes be around a few GB to more than 30 GB when working on a video file. Been with Apple since the classic, buying an Apple laptop at this point makes senses, since all my softwares are for Mac only.
Wish Job would offer a Powerbook, with this configuration:
1)Nvidia GO 6800 256mb or ATI X800 256mb
2)DDR3 533MHz SDRAM
3)7200 rpm 100 GB HD
4)1.8 GHz G5 processor
I have a feeling this might be the specs for the coming G5 Powerbook, would kill myself if the latest offering from Apple would to come out in Oct after I have purchase the current G4 PB.
Would appreciate some advises from fellow Apple users with Powerbook.
Thanks

well know when we know
until then, if you need a powerbook now, but one, the new revision is great.
if you dont need it now, its always smarter to wait, and get the next latest greatest thing. but lines always get updated.
after reading forums for a few months, i came to my own conclusion that powerbooks werent gonna get a major bump for awhile, so i went ahead about bought my 15" 2 weeks ago. its a great machine, speedy little ****.

Thanks Garage 81, just that the PB not cheap, any news on the vineyard on future improvements to the PB would be great. If the wait is only a few months, then fine, I will wait. If not, purchasing the current range sounds better.
How's your PB so far? Any reliability problems? My old work horse of an iBook G3 600 MHz, tough as nails, dropped it a few times, bend the LCD too far back. And it is still ticking. It has been my DVD and music jukebox for the last two years. Still going strong. Just that the recent batches of Macs including my Powermac has been a nightmare. I had so much problem with it, that my confident in Apple being shaken. The list of postings about the PB, seems to indicate a build quality issue.
Would appreciate your advise. But with my blind royalty to Apple based machines, getting anything else is taboo.

Just know that the reason you see so many problems here on the forums, is because everybody comes here to fix or complain about their problems. I think for the most part you'll be safe if you get a new PB. I also think that the 15" or 17" is plenty powerful for design work. I do all my design work on a 1GHz Rev B 12" and it works just great for me, albeit I use an external LCD when I got serious work to do.
