Hello. On my 15" Powerbook G4 1.5GHz (not the current generation), the touchpad button does not feel right. When you click, it makes an excessive amount of noise and sometimes it sticks.
Does anyone know if I can easily remove the button? Is it as simple as prying it out with a flat blunt tool? Or do I have to remove the upper case? Better yet, does anyone have an Apple Service Manual for the G4 Alumunum Powerbooks? I want to reseat the button and clean the area directly below it.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Andrew

However, you can't just lift out the button. Your best best is to take it to a genius bar and see if they can fix it there. If not, you may need to send it to Apple.

Thanks Steve. I did not want to pryat it just for that reason- I somehow doubt that it would be that easy to remove. I also doubt that Apple will repair it as the button DOES indeed work, just not as nicely as it did when new. Perhaps if it gets worse I will open the machine up myself.

I think that if it's still under warranty and the trackpad sticks you have every right to get it fixed under Applecare. Even if it messes up 1 out of 10 times.

I bought one of the first 15" Aluminum PBs... after 3 weeks I returned it to Apple for a new Display and a "bouncy," too stiff trackpad button. One and a half years later, the screen seems to be fine but the button is coming loose on the left side. The button cover gives a slight click before the resistance of the button itself. It's only an annoyance at this point... I expect it will get worse. Eventually I'll take it into the genius bar at Galleria, Cambridge, MA... certainly before the extended warranty expires. Calm persistence has always worked in the past.
The worst part is the 3 or so days that I expect to be without my machine.
