Firstly let me just say I am a excited little puppy right now. I have just ordered 'two' 12" Powerbooks one for me, and one for my partner who I have successfully convinced to come from the dark side!!!, the new revision ones with 1.5Ghz and 8x super drives, 80gb hdds and the default 512mb ram.
I also asked for an additional 512mb ram to be fitted to the units to make up 1GB Ram.
I have read on other posts thou that apple has installed 2x256mb Ram modules into these units, one onboard and one in the expansion user slot, which means if they add the extra module then I will only have 756mb Ram, not 1GB. Can anyone please confirm this??
If its the case I will quickly need to modify my order and get them to add 1GB to each powerbook instead.
We are both really excited about getting these powerbooks, but have been informed we have a minimum 2 week delivery wait. DOH!!!
I will be replacing my G4 17" iMac. I hate to see this machine go, as it looks so funky. But I need to sell it to help pay for these little beautys on the way.
Any help would be great.
Cheers.

yes an extra 512 will only take it to 768mb in total.
personally i would save your money a buy a third party chip because for the price of the 512mb chip from apple, you could buy a 1GB chip from Crucial or Kingston.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice, although I think the reseller store is adding the memory, not apple as such. But none the less I will double check.
Cheers.

Could you please post a link. The 512MB SO-DIMM from Apple is $75. I have looked around, and I can't find the 1 GB SO-DIMM for less then about $200.
I have also just purchased a 12" PB. I couldn't justify the $425 for the 1.25 gb. For that money, I am going to start out with 768 MB and hope for the best.
If I could find the 1 GB for the close to the same money, I would definitly do it. For $200, I still think it is worth trying the 768 MB configuration.

Hi,
At the moment I have a G4 iMac 1.25ghz with the 768mb configuration. While most of the time it is fine, I do notice the system beginning to slug when I have say, Firefox, Mail.app, Adium, Photoshop Elements 3 and then iPhoto. iPhoto 5 which really SLOWS down. SO I know that the 1.25GB Ram should definitely step things up.
Just so u know. (others may report different, thats just what I have found personally)
Cheers

errr, i haven't got a clue what i was talking about with that post?!?!?!?! apple UK must of dropped their prices since i posted that or i've been on the crack pipes again!
what i'm looking at the moment is Apple UK charge an extra £50exVAT for a 512Mb chip - crucial charge £48.99exVAT (not much saving there and it's fitted)
for a 1Gb chip - Apple UK = £289.99exVAT and Crucial costs £201.99exVAT (a decent saving)
sorry for getting your hopes up, normal service has been resumed......
