i've been using my power adapter since i got my laptop and it's been fine. a while ago i dropped the laptop from a few feet and it landed right on the connector that goes to the laptop. it bent the aluminum case around the power adapter slot, and the metal ring on the power adapter connector was a little distorted, but it still worked fine.

lately it's been getting worse and worse, and last night i couldn't get it to work at all. i bent the metal ring back to its original shape (or close to it), yet to no avail; the power adapter still doesn't work, unless i push INCREDIBLY hard on the connector.

however, my friend's power adapter will work fine in my laptop, without me applying pressure to it at all, and mine won't work in either his or mine.

so what's the deal? is something on my connector not making contact? but why? it's almost exactly the way it was at stock - granted the ring isn't as perfect. should i continue fussing with the connector, bending the ring around until it works? i really don't want to shell out the money for a new one.

A solder point or contact within the connector housing may have been broken by the fall. You might be able to pull the plastic housing off the connector to take a look inside, but I've never done this before. I know that the housing on some old connectors used to slide off involuntarily, so some pliers and a firm pull might work.
