Some time ago i managed to drive over my G4 1,33 PB with my ca (yes, it is really possible). Pulling hair from my head, I discovered things could have gone much worse (a couple of "dark spots/areas" on the screen and some ugly scrapmarks). One problem though:

-The cd/DVD-drive (combo) doesn´t work anynmore. The case around the combo-drive got pressed together, so the combo doesn´t read or write any cd/dvd´s.

I talked to the local Applestore, and they told me it was going to be a expensive repair.

So, I figured it might be an alternative to buy a new external combodrive and use it to burn and read cd/DVD. BUT, is it possible to boot cd´s from an external drive like I used to with my internal drive? IAW: will an external combodrive behave like an internal, and will I be able to do all the things I used to with an external?

This might be a stupid question, but please give me an answer...
