...use warm water and a lint free towel to wipe down all of your Powerbook, whatever you do don't use windex on your LCD.

There's nothing wrong with Windex on an LCD.

Just don't use any strong solvents (like mineral spirits) on the screen.

I use all-purpose cleaner (409) on my whole housing and it works fine.

Hmmm... I remember reading somewhere on these boards that using windex on an LCD can cause it to go cloudy or something to that extent. I always tend to agree with tooki though so I'm sorta stuck. Anybody got their facts straight on this?

Everyone here says just use warm water and a soft clean cloth, but I find that nothing works better than rubbing alcohol on the entire machine (heavily diluted on the screen, of course). I know a lot of people specifically say not to use rubbing alcohol on the "chassis", so to speak, but it keeps it clean and relatively sanitary, and it gets rid of greases/oils very well too. It hasn't "tarnished" the finish thus far either. Just my recommendation . . .

I do the same thing... I use rubbing alcohol on the Aluminum when the machine is off.. and i allow time for it to dry..
I don't use it on the screen though..

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I also do it while it's off, and that when I use it on the screen, I dilute it quite a bit, and wipe it off quickly with a very soft cloth; otherwise, it has a tendancy to streak. :-)

I use a eyeglasses cleaner kit I got for free as a promo at Sunglass Hut. It's just a lint-free cloth and some sort of alcohol liquid, but I figure it's pretty safe, since it's designed for sunglasses. Also, I agree that the alcohol based cleaners cut hand oils quite well.

DON'T USE RUBBING ALCOHOL ON THE SCREEN!

It makes it more "brittle" with time. It can also start to get a yellowish tint.

Water will get up 99% of anything you want to clean.
