Hey, newbie here. Bit of a Windows fan I'm afraid, but just seen the 12" iBook at £699, and no Windows machine comes close, so it may be time for me get stuck in to OSX. I've destested Macs since I first used one back in about 1997, but you can't argue with those prices, and everyone keeps saying OSX is so different that I won't recognise it...anyway...

I was actually about to go out tomorrow and buy a 12" iBook (Dixons are doing 12 months interest free credit - hate them, but can't beat that deal) until I read through this forum and saw the rumours for the new iBook..?

Is there any truth in them? And will the new machines be around the same price as these? What will the differences be?
I've always loved the look of the original G3 iBooks, would be ace if they went back to funky rather than refined looks!

Please post back, I have lots more questions!

Any new ibook, which could well be soon, will be the same form factor. It'll just be a CPU upgrade, maybe increased hard drvie capacity, etc. I don't think you'll lose out a lot if you got one now. Although if you don't desperately need one now there is now harm in waiting.

Anything new will be the same price or cheaper.

I don't know how ism can say that with such confidence. Since the current iBook design is four years old, I'm expecting a completely new design before long. It might not come this year, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does.

Despite that, I'd say if you find what you think is a great deal and you need a computer, forget the future and buy one now.

Wow is it really four years old? How time flys. OK I really didn't realise it had been around that long. You're right, I don't know what's going to happen, that's just my guess. I reckon on more rev of the current model before they do anything major.

The four years has gone quickly! I bought the G3 500Mhz as soon as it was release, and it's still going strong - that is after one logic board replacement, plus I've upgraded the original 10Gig HD to a 40 Gig model, and swapped the CD ROM drive to a Combo. Hopefully these upgrades will see me through another year to 18 months before I decide to upgrade to the next latest and greatest.

The original Icebook was a beast. I wish I would have bought one.
