I have a 15" Al book with one slightly dead pixel. The red aspect of it is always off - on a red screen there is a black dot and on a white screen there is a cyan dot (green & blue working).
I rubbed it a bit, but no dice... how hard should on press when doing this?
The screen colors slightly distorted, but I don't want to put too much pressure on it.

Slightly dead is a misnomer. Either it's dead, working or stuck.
If you've gently rubbed the area enough to get some screen distortion, it's probably more than slightly dead. You could try the massage in one direction, then reverse it as a chance.
