This has now happened 3 times in around a month give or take a couple weeks. I shut down the book like normal and the next time I startup it starts in a "safe" mode. No Bluetooth, wireless internet, etc. Pretty annoying. Long startup time and then whala safe mode. I am Mr. Peripheral with my mireless usb mouse, microphone, speakers, dual monitor, printer and of course dsl line all connected whenever at home at the desk.

Am I maybe doing something wrong? Any advice ?

This is a 15" 1.67 Super Drive model and it is my first mac.

Obvious question -- there's nothing pressing on the keyboard when you restart, is there?

Broken keyboard? Coke spilled over keyboard? Your PowerBook is acting as if shift were pressed during boot.

None of the above, no shift, no caps lock, definitely no spills. I dunno its intermittent at best. It just seems to be a sort of fluke.
