I'm not sure if twice in one day constitutes a pattern, or whether ths was a weird glitch, but twice yesterday my Rev. A 12-in PB refused to wake up. It was completely unresponsive and required a hard restart. The second time my daughter said she could sort of see some lightness in the screen, but it definitely was not anything bright enough to see and nothing else appeared to work. THe only thing plugged into the machine was the power cord -- no mouse, no external display, no nothing. It's all Apple RAM (came with the machine).

I will say that in the past couple weeks, the machine has been unbelievably slow. I've tried restarts, repairing permissions (that's all, though -- I need to investigate other options) to no avail. And when I mean slow I mean very, very slow. User switching took forever and programs took an incredible amount of time to launch. Now, today, after last night's forced restart, things seem more back to normal. And the machine woke up normally, too.

THings are backed up and I have both AppleCare and Safeward, so monetarily, repairs are not an issue. I'm not sure at this point if I NEED repairs. Anyone have any insights?

I forgot to mention I'm running 10.3.7, not 10.3.8. As far as I know, no new programs were added before the problems. I have no guarantees my kids downloaded anything, though, even though they're not supposed to.

I'd take it in.

If I had a newborn baby and it showed a fever, I'd zip over like a worrisome parent too.

I had the same thing happen where my PB wouldn't wake up or it would wake up and then shut down 10 seconds later. It turned out to be the sleep detection mechanism was somehow broken.

PBs are fairly robust but due to the nature of laptop use, they can get alot of wear and tear that you won't see in a desktop.

I also had an old Mac SE/30 that I took from my house to work and back. I had to turn it in because the every day travel cracked the motherboard and I had to turn it in for repairs.
