I'll be quick and to the point.

I would like any iBook owner top confirm a few things for me relating to an iBook G800mhz.

Firstly am I right in thinking this machine is airport extreme? I need to buy a card, and I am hoping it is extreme ready as the old AP cards are getting hard to find.

Secondly, can someone give me a typical range in a house environment? I plan to put the base station near the front of the house, and the iBook is my daughters, she is at the top rear of the house.

Thirdly, I plan to put my PC on wireless as well, I think Apple airport is at bit over priced, I have seen many belkin routers on WiFI and know this will work with the pc, but will it work with the iBook, I have a powerbook as well so this is most important it is compatible.

Fourthly, Will I be able to share my printers attached to the pc over wifi so I can print from the laptops anywhere in the house?

thank for any help

Largely, those are Peripherals questions, so you're not in the right forum.

AFAIK,

1) No. Read the manual.

2) Depends. If you have problems, there are a variety of wireless repeaters on the market. Consider a wireless powerline solution.

3) Depends. Read the manual.

4) This depends on which wireless router you choose. Some yes, some no.

Too many depends in the last post (no offense).

1. If it's a G4 800MHz model, then yes it supports Airport Extreme (APX). If it's a G3, you're out of luck and have to find yourself the original Airport card.

2. I'm almost positive you'll be able to get the signal from one end of the house to the other, but this depends not only on your iBook's antenae but your wifi's antenae as well, and what kind of interference you have between the two. If it's anything like the Apt's I live in, where I grab my neighbors signal from across the street (with my PB which has worse reception), then I'm sure you'll be fine.

3. You iBook will work with them lot's better and easier than your PC as long as they're 802.11b or 02.11g, infact you should be able to connect with your iBook without any software installation. This may vary if you get a weird off brand product but I'd say 99% of belkin routers will work fine with your iBook.

4. You can as long as you have a router that supports wifi printing.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

If you have the drivers for your printer on your iBook, and you setup printer sharing you should be able to print from anywhere in your house, and with any router. That is how I do it. If you want to scan you will have to connect it to the iBook.
Bless those that sacrifice for us all.

Take a look at the Networking forum when you get ready to set up. Lots of good stuff there. Note that nothing involving networking is specific to iBooks except the particular hardware that each model supports, so if it's a question about networks as such, go to Networking.

(Yes, I do moderate that forum. Why do you ask? )
