Hi everyone, i got a problem with my ibook and i wonder if anyone could help me. My ibook is G4 933mhz and the problem it seems to be in the hard disk and started like two weeks ago. The computer it is very slow doing any kind of things like closing a window and the hard disk have its sound very slow, the same sound but slow. I have done some things like reseting the pram and the nvram but the problem and sound are still there. Why should i do?, I would aprecciate any kind of help, Thanks.

The first thing to do is to back-up anything important on the drive. Do not wait to do this essential step, because a drive can go south very quickly after symptoms develop. If it does fail at some point at least it won't be a disaster.

Have you run Disk Utility? It can tell you whether the drive is failing using the S.M.A.R.T. technology (assuming the internal drive supports it.) You can also have Disk Utility attempt to repair the drive (you will have to boot from a system CD or an external drive.) If there is something wrong with the hardware DU will let you know if it is beyond repair, software-wise.

Just like Mojo said, backup first. After that, repair permissions on the disk utility application and check out if the slugishnes is gone. Also, how full is your hard disk?
