There is a major problem that needs to be addressed in the latest generation of I-book. The track pad is virtually unusable, and I have to use a third party mouse whenever I want to do anything. The problem is that you cannot control the cursor using your fingernails on the track pad. The track pad as so many germs on it, and it is very dangerous to actually put your fingers on it. Instead, I should be able to use my fingernails to control the cursor. That way, when I am done using the I-Book, I can put bleach on my fingernails and file off the parts that made physical contact with the track pad. Unfortuately, you cannot use your fingernails to control the computer, and this is a serious problem that MAC should have taken into consideration when designing the product. I can't believe they would release something with such a huge flaw. It's like the Shuffle which doesn't have a screen- it is virtually unusable. BUYER BEWARE!

good lord - this never even occurred to me! my trackpad must be infested with germs! i mean, there's so much there for them to feed on, unlike all the other surfaces i touch every day. i'd better make like john and get a, er, antibacterially treated third party mouse???

Man, if you think the trackpad has germs on it, check out the keyboard and mouse! (Grow a culture from a sample taken from a typical doorknob and pretty soon you'll be living like Howard Hughes...)
Yep, this post must be a joke...

Whew, thanks for the info!
Good thing I've got an Apple iBook. Fortunately, I've never used an I:Book, I-book, or I-Book before. With your quality, information-packed post you've made me a smarter consumer and I now know to avoid this obviously incompetent MAC company and their inferior products.

I have the same problem with my shoes. I cannot wear them without putting on socks for fear of contamination. Likewise, I throw away each pair of socks and soak my feet in a low concentration bleach bath everytime I get home from work.
I imagine there millions of people out there who have the same nutty fears you do...
