What has your iBook survived / endured?
I own an aging indigo G3 366mhz toilet seat iBook. I'd love to upgrade but wont until the iBooks offer a resolution > 1024x768. it hurts me some apps refuse to install on my 800x600 display
Anyway, I love my iBook. It's very tough. In my 4 (or maybe 5) years of owning it:
I have dropped it about 4 foot onto a hardwood floor. The CD tray end cover bit snapped off but clipped back on.
Made the hard drive go 'pop' from massive overheating. Using it in bed did this (on a duvet). The bed stopped any heat escaping & any cooling air getting in. I lost about 250mb of disk space & had random bugs, needed a clean install. It stil l works great but make a constant wirring noise.
Spilt a whole mug of tea over the keyboard. This was the most heart stopping moment ever. I switched it off right away, let it drain, then got the hair dryer on it for about 30 mins. I didn't switch it on for a week after that. It works fine, amazingly although there is staining coming through the case next to the trackpad, below the cntrl, alt, cmd buttons.
I love these tough iBooks

I dropped my iBook off a four-foot counter once and no damage was incurred. Of course, it was in a Tom Bihn Empire Builder bag with a Brain Cell inside it at the time, but still I don't think a PowerBook would have fared quite so well.

Mine was accidentally hurled into interstellar space, only to be recovered by gray aliens who brought it back to me, but only in exchange for a sample of my brainstem and tips on configuring AppleTalk.
OK, all kidding aside, I have traveled some with the iBook, but the worst it's seen is being packed in a backpack that sat on the rack on an airport shuttle van. I've flown a lot with some PC laptops (some INTERESTING flights, too!), but since the iBook is actually my wife's, it gets better treatment.

Yeah, right. Wouldn't fit down the hole. Try that story on someone less gullible, man!

a few years ago I dropped a almost new 500 mhz white ibook about 4 or 5 feet onto a hard wood floor.
the CD/DVD holder/tray flipped out almost completely, but after I gently pushed the tray back in the ibook worked just fine.

i seem to remember reading a post on here about a guy who crashed his car and his ibook flew off the passenger seat, straight through the windscreen, then bounced off down the road - but still worked okay afterward.
or did i imagine reading this???
