Hey everyone - I have a first generation 17" powerbook and during the past month or so it has been going to sleep when the battery indicator gets down to about 45-60 minutes of power left, and it won't wake up unles I plug it in. It always would let me use it until the battery indicator turned red and it would give me several warnings. Now, however, it will just go to sleep without any warning at all. I have tried changing setting in 'energy saver' preferences but it doesn't seem to help. I also tried resetting the power management unit but that didn't do the trick either. Any ideas??

Maybe it just requires a plain 'ol battery calibration. Run it down, charge it up to 100% and again down to 0% and check if it calibrates.

the problem is I can't run it down sufficiently because it goes to sleep with so much battery power left...unless I'm missing something in what you think I can do

It looks like you need a new battery.
