Hey all,
I have an old G3 Lombard PB. I recently purchased a Belkin KVM switch for it to switch between my Windows Desktop when I have to have it, and my PB hooked up to my Bookendz dock. Due to some stupid glitch in Belkin's switches, you supposedly can't sleep any computer hooked up to it. For the past couple days, I've just set it to not automatically sleep when it's hooked up to the power adaptor, so it's on without sleeping for days on end. Am I doing it harm? Do I have to worry about it overheating or anything? Thanks!

The consensus these days seems to be that, at least with newer hardware, it doesn't really matter if you leave it running all the time. Sleep in particular can cause problems when periferals are involved so I'd say don't worry about it. I've had a Pismo since 2001 and it's been running 24/7 for most of that time with no problems, though it's a good idea to reboot now and then. Also, I'd set your monitor to go off completely and spin down the hard drive after a desired time (Energy Saver preference panel).

Not sure if this applies, but another consideration is that OS X runs certain utilities at 2 or 3 in the morning that help keep things running smoothly. That won't happen if your book is asleep.
