Hi all.

My 12" PB combo drive seems to have died. Has anyone replaced one of these? I see I can get the part for about $150 from powerbookresq, but I was wondering just how involved the process is. I'm pretty comfortable taking things apart.

Putting them back together, that's a different story....

Removing the optical drive requires almost a complete take apart of the machine: keyboard, top cover, hard drive, DCDC board, and logic board. Check out http://www.pbfixit.com for the guides.
