i have an ibook (g3, 800mhz, 10.3.8) which has had a perfectly fine battery life as of yesterday. today, though, the battery has 'disappeared' from the menu item (the 'x' in the battery icon), and it won't charge.

this is literally overnight.

1. would the addition of a 512 mb ram chip be a culprit, even though when i take it out i get the same problem (tried taking out the RAM to see if it was bad).

2. would a battery lose it's ability to hold a charge overnight rather than gradually? this battery truly was fine yesterday and working well on a full charge with no power adapter, giving me at least 3 hours on the charge.

3. i know batteries are not covered under a typical apple care warranty. but is tehre ever a case like this where it seems not to be a typical case of a li battery dying off slowly?

thanks in advance!
I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are
missing.

I've had luck in the past by resetting the PRAM on my iBook. Go to Apple's support page and search on "Reset PRAM." Good luck.
