I have a 15" 1.5ghx SD powerbook (last generation before the new trackpad models) and I believe that my touchpad has broken.

It now only tracks on the top half. If I drag from the top half down to the bottom, the mouse pointer will stop moving about half way.

I can get the bottom half to track by pressing abnormally hard on that section, but not a comfortable pressure.

Has anyone else heard or experienced such a thing?

Oh, and P.S. I did have Sidetrack installed but I uninstalled it and restarted and am still getting the same behavior.

Does the same thing happen when you boot from CD? If so, it just might be the trackpad connector is not seated properly. If the issue is gone from CD..then you know it is sw related. Hope this helps.

Yep, same thing happens when I boot from the CD and I have another OS on a seperate HD and it happens there as well.

I guess this means I am just going to have to take it in right?

Yeah man. Take it in. Bummer. You might be able to wait and see if it just a reset. The top case takes about 5 minutes to remove. Your service provider should be able to do this relatively quick, granted no replacement parts are needed. Good luck. Aloha.
