Hi,
I need a new HD for my PowerBook 17" 1.5Ghz.
I can choose between a Toshiba MK8026GAX and an Hitachi HTS548080M9AT00.
They are very similar (5400RPM and 80GB), but the Toshiba has 16MB of cache while the Hitachi has 'only' 8MB.
Does anyone know a performance comparison?
Which one is quiter and more reliable?
Thanks.

I installed the Hitachi Travelstar 80GB/5,400/8 MB (replaced an IBM Travelstar 40GB/5400/8MB.
Got a 10% speed bump in Xbench 1.0b3 (from 66 to 74, this is a rev.A TiPB 400MHz/1 GB). This is running the same Xbench version in Panther.
The system runs better now, no doubts.
I like Hitachi (old IBM).

If I could I would go with a seagate hard drive; they cost a bit more, but they are considered to be to be more reliable and they do have a 5 year warranty...

I just replaced my stock hard drive which made so much noise, with the exact Hitachi HTS548080M9AT00. It is very quiet. I turned the stock drive into an external backup drive.
