Ok i tried installing Virtual PC on my 12"pb. However i havent managed to upgrade the RAM yet. So my question is how well will VPC run on 768mb's of RAM? Or is a 1Gb stick a must?
Thanx

How fast is your proc. I found that windows xp ran slower on my 1Ghz 768mb ram 12in than on my 300mhz 160mb ram IBM thinkpad.

my 1.67 isn't much faster than my TI was at VPC, even with 1GB of RAM

Virtual PC is just too slow unless, you have a dual 2Ghz G5 or faster. Even then it is too slow. You might try windows 2k instead.

Windows 2000 runs pretty well on my 1.25 Ghz 15" with 1.25 GB of RAM on 10.3.8. I made the mistake of trying Windows XP under Mac OS X on my 400 mhz Pismo about 3 years ago and I nearly killed someone. I'm gonna stick with Windows 2000 for now.

That is so NOT true! That's riduculous. I have a 17" Powerbook 1.33Ghz. I have 2GB ram and VPC7 runs great with Win2000. There's no way it will tackle a Pentium but it definitely runs better than some of the latest celerons which says a lot considering it's really a Mac that you are running and not a physical PC. I use it for a few of my business apps or when internet explorer for windows is required for a specific web sight.
If you are going to tell somebody that a even a dual 2Ghz is too slow then Microsoft wouldn't be making money off this product if it was that bad and this point you should just tell the poster to buy a physical PC.

why would people move to this virtual pc? does it basically make your mac a pc? or.. do you still get the benefits of a mac and be able to use an OS that you are more comfortable with?

It's so you can run applications that are Windows only, like Autocad, some accounting and/or database, or to do development for Windows only programming languages like Java.. err, I mean C#.

Virtual PC is one the best apps ever made for the Macintosh. Sometimes people have one or two basic programs that are PC only and don't want to have a physical PC just to run them. Virtual PC keeps people from having to be stuck with using a PC when they prefer to use a Mac. It does require a fast Mac but most Macs that are 1Ghz and above with at least 1GB of ram will enjoy all the benefits of both worlds on one computer.
Emulation software has become quite popular. There are PC programs out now that run Mac OSX so PC users can enjoy the Mac experience one computer.

A separate program that runs in a window, It lets you run windows programs on your mac. Kinda like classic lets you run os 9 programs on your os x machine.

I have VPC 7 and XP Home. I haven't installed it yet on my PowerBook as I'm waiting for Tiger to be released.
All I want it for is to test websites under a Windows platform.
Anyone with similar specs to mine had any experience with VPC 7 and XP Home?

I run VPC on my 15" 1.2GHz PB with 768MB of ram. I give 256MBs to the VM when its running. Running XP is fine if you disable all the bells and whistles, not as snappy as a PC since its emulating but still fast enough to use. I have also found that disabling the network adaptor in XP when your not using it helps to speed it up a bit.
