Hello, and please excuse what may be a very dumb question from a n00b!

I have an ibook which would appear to be in terminal decline and I am trying to transfer some files (mainly photos) from the ibook to my Dads old iMac using Firewire. I have been able to start up the ibook holding down the "T" key and get the big yellow Firewire icon on the blue background but I can't then "find" the ibook on the iMac. Where should I find it on the iMac? - I expected to see an icon for it on the desk top but there's nothing there. Should I be looking for it somewhere else on the iMac or am I doing something else wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Try the application <Disk Utility> and use it to mount the iBook.
Disk Utility is in the folder <Applications> --> <Utilities>.
