I have been thinking about purchasing a copy of Doom 3 for my ibook but because of its notoriously high system requirements, I'm wondering if this is a wise investment. I would like to know if my middle of the road ibook has sufficient horsepower to run this game at least semi decently.

The specs for my ibook are 1.07 ghz processor, 512 MBs of DDR SDRAM, 32 MBs of VRAM with 32-bit colour from ATI ie your standard middle range ibook graphics card.

If someone would be so kind as to give me an answer as to whether Doom 3 could run I'd really appreciate it.

I'd pass on running Doom 3 on the current iBooks. I've heard it's passable on the latest-and-greatest 15" and 17" PowerBook models.

I'm playing it on my 1Ghz ibook with 768 ram right now. It's playable, looks surprisingly good as well.

I have the same machine, with the same RAM, and I am surprised at your comment!

The max I can stretch to is World of Warcraft on 'low' everything, and even then I only get about 5-25fps at best!

I always assumed my poor iBook woudl melt at even the thought of Doom 3...

I tried it on a 1.5Ghz PowerBook with 1GB of RAM and a 64MB Radeon 9700 and thought it played like crap.

... thought I didn't try to tweak it very much.

You're better off spending your cash on something else or at least waiting until there is a demo of Doom 3 for the Mac (is there one already?), and then making your decision after seeing it play on your machine.
