I'm thinking about upgrading my 1ghz 12" powerbook (rev b) to the current 15" powerbook (combo drive). I spent some time this afternoon testing it out at a local computer store, and I was surprised by how sluggish and un-responsive the trackpad seemed.
The new trackpad is obviously great at two finger scrolling and seems better at it than older books that have iscroll installed. But everything else--i.e., moving the pointer around, clicking, dragging and 'drag-lock' are much less responsive. It seemed as though the trackpad would only work right if my whole fingerpad was touching the trackpad (which would entail turning and bending my wrist unnaturally...).
Am I alone in experiencing this? Was this a faulty specimen I was trying, or have other people encountered this? I'm concerned about it, because I like just about everything else on the new 15". I figure that if I found it hard to use the trackpad during a short session with the machine, what it would be like over the course of a year or two?

After the 10.3.9 update, it seems to be fine now! Just like the trackpad on my TI was!

All you have to do is turn the trackpad tracking speed up.

No.
There was actually a problem with tracking on the new trackpads prior to the 10.3.9 update. It is fixed now.

Thanks for the responses. I did have tracking the tracking speed turned right up, but it was still sluggish. Glad to hear that this has been addressed.

I had mine turned up, and had to move it backdown after the update. I am still in awe of how much more I like this machine now that it works the way I expected it to

I've now picked up my 15", 1.5 gig, and I've installed x.3.9, and it's working just fine. Beautiful machine.
I've got a question though--and I'm sure you someone here will have thought about this: if we all upgrade to Tiger, and presumeably Tiger was finished before x.3.9, how do we know that this improvement will be on the Tiger CD?
I would assume that if it isn't, Apple will come out with an upgrade almost immediately, but I'd be curious to other people's thoughts...
