I have a 300 mhz wallstreet running 10.1 It does fine, but its slow. Currently it has 192 mb RAM. Obviously I need more of that. I know that I can upgrade the processor to a G4, but is there any real advantage for the money?

Also, I'd like to get a wireless PCMCIA card to use in it. I found the following at New Egg:
GigaFast 802.11b Wireless LAN PCMCIA Card
Standard: IEEE 802.11b
Wireless Data Rates: 11 Mbps(max)
Security: Up to 128-Bit WEP
Interface: 32-bit CardBus Type II
Frequency Band: 2.400GHz ~ 2.483GHz
Modulation: DQPSK, DBPSK, CCK
Antenna: Internal diversity
Features: Full mobility and seamless cell-to-cell roaming; Designed with integrated antenna for additional mobility
Its only $14. Will it work or do I have to have something mac specific?

One more thing. Anyone know if Apple ever out out a firmware update for the DVDrom? I can boot in OS 9 and use it that way if need be.

That really depends on you and your needs. Personally, I would leave it as is (with perhaps a RAM upgrade) and if a low cost machine is the meaning of all that, I would invest to a 12" iBook, which will offer much more performance and integration with OS X than any upgrade you can do to a Wallstreet. And with Tiger released in less than ten days, and an iBook revision rather imminent (they have a six months update cycle for at least the last two years), I would be very tempted.

You have to ask if it will work with MacOS. You can also find in ebay wireless cards (PCMCIA) that will work with every MacOS version from 8.0 to 10.2 (and perhaps 10.3) on a Wallstreet.

Thanks!
