I need some help....my eight month old daughter just pulled the screen of my powerBook G4 and snapped it right back...The screen now will not stay up. I am presumming that the hinges are broken. I have been online looking for new hinges etc, but I wanted to check with someone that this is what I am looking for. Has anyone had a similar thing happen (not likely, I am pretty stupid to have let this happen ) I really would love to hear what you think, I'm a bit desperate!!
Thanks so much
Lynsey

Dang. That sucks. You may just bring it in and forget how it happened when they ask. Tell them you were just looking at the screen upside down and it snapped.
BTW, lay off on the protein and weight lifting with your little one. She's a *wee* bit too young for that stuff, okay?

Oh. It is probably a spring that is now not conected and cannot supply tension to the hinge mechanism (did that make sense?). So the cost of repairing it if you had to may not be that high, depending on how derviceable the hinge mechanism is.

You're not alone. I assume you have an old tiBook. I had the exact same thing happen to me a while ago. The hinges on those things are made from the most brittle metal I've ever seen. You can buy replacement hinges on eBay for about 70 bucks and try to install them yourself. I warn you that you need to be a very patient and careful person to attempt this. You need to remove just about everything inside a PB to get to the hinges. You also have to open the screen bezel and superglue it back together. I think the best option would be to send it to one of those powerbook repair services. They charge about 300 bucks I think, but it's worth it unless you have experience with that sort of thing.

I had same problem.... dropped TiPB in backpack.... landed on corner and snapped hinges.
Call Safeware.com insurance. They sent box and I packed PB charger and they called after they replaced hinges and said when they were checking it out they could get 3 year old battery to hold only a 1 &1/2 hour charge, so they sent me a brand new battery and a new wall charger......
ALL WITH NO DEDUCTABLE OR CHARGE.......
NOW THAT IS SERVICE!
