i removed the battery prior to installing new ram on my pb, as was advised by the user manual. however, on replacement, i noticed that the battery will not fit in perfectly as before. the edge that runs parallel to the locking mechanism sticks out still, albeit only slightly, but that to me, is indeed rather disturbing.

has anyone also encountered this problem? what causes it and how can i get the battery to be flushed flat to the bottom of the pb again?

pls advise. thanks in advance.

p/s: this is a new 12" rev D pb btw.

It's normal for it not to be perfectly flush, as in "you can run your fingers over the gap and feel the bump". That's because there are springs in there to make sure the contacts fully mate. The springs push against the battery and the lock holds the battery in place.

Don't worry, since it's on the bottom of the machine you won't see it. Every iBook and Powerbook ever made has been like this.

I installed RAM in my one month old 12" rev C and everything's totally flush.

Anyway, have you tried taking everything out again and seeing where the problem originated? For example, it takes very firm pressure to push the RAM in diagonally before pushing it down to seat in the clips. There is a quite loud and substantial snap. A visual inspection should certainly show what's up.

but the problem is, the battery was well flushed to the bottom before i took it out. now it's not and cannot. i've tried to (gently) force it down but to no avail.

and unfortunately it's really noticeable from the front too, at the edge nearest the latch, at the curved part. the gap is visible.

hmmm.

what i was trying to say is that something is preventing it from seating itself correctly. Pushing down won't do anything. Taking it out and investigating what the problem is--that might turn up the cause.
