I know there are many posts from new powerbook owners but I just want to add to them with my own experiences!

I own a dual 1.25 MDD Powermac with 1gb RAM, but have been looking into buying a laptop for a while, the computer is in my bedroom and I was after something a little quieter and less hot (the thing really heats my room up in summer!) I had been looking at powerbooks but Had read a lot about various issues, in the end I took the plunge and bought a new 1.5ghz Powerbook 15in with combi drive and airport extreme.

I am so so pleased, so much more than I expected! Heat is just not an issue for me, im typing this on my lap and its just nice and warm, not hot, very comfortable. I have an oldish intel cerelon 700mhz laptop and that thing burns if you have it on your lap too long, not to mention the thing blows out boiling hot air out of the back with the really loud fan! Thats another thing about the powerbook, it is literally silent, I cant explain how nice that is to move from a powermac to a silent machine, the fan is on im sure, you can hear it if you put your ear to the keyboard but thats it!

The screen is GORGEOUS, I have a £400 17in Samsung TFT and it looks better to me than that, plus NO dead pixels, my TFT has 3 :-( I thought the backlit keyboard would be a nice little touch but it goes even further than that! The fact that it changes the screen brightness on the surrounding conditions is excellent, i can sit in bed at night with the light off and the screen goes as dim as possible and its so easy on the eyes.

All in all im so pleased with this machine, my powermac is on ebay and I doubt I will ever go back to a huge loud desktop. All I need now is my copy of Up to date tiger to turn up and im a very happy bunny!

I like posts like this. Keep them up. I am on the fence. I don't "need" a laptop, but since my roommate has gotten one and uses it all over the house, even in the bathroom, I am jealous as all get out. Mind you, he doesn't have a powerbook, but he does have a pretty nice Toshiba, 15" with great sounding speakers and it really isn't that heavy at all, probably a little lighter than the Powerbook 17". I just can't justify the expense right now. $2700 is steep for something that I would "like" rather than need. But man how awsome it would be to be out in the back yard this summer at night surfing and posting on the web! Oh well these forums will have to suffice until then. Enjoy your new purchase.

I went from a desktop G4 733 Quicksilver to a 15" Powerbook 1.67, and I couldn't be happier. I'm typing this in my lazy-boy while I watch tv. Try that with a dual processor G5! And yes, this thing is practically silent. LOVE IT.

Mine is at the factory. Have been using iBook since it first came out in May 01. Love my little guy but saw that PB 15.2 had backlit keyboard – I felt I could use that [have accessory USB LED but funky] {I work in the dark and this appeared to be such a great feature, I needed it}. Then a little later Tiger was in development with Dashboard, etc . I always needed some of those pop up widgets – like the weather; you never know I might need to go outside. Then a PB came out with 1.67 and100 GB hard drive – my poor 10 GB– Yes I have a 250 external but at that time, I only purchase a 10.

• Almost a year now since I had this dream... Just ordered: so I will have loaded Tiger, only a week away.

Off to Apple Store for the sights. 5:50 p.m. here

I hear ya! I have my new 15" Powerbook for a few days and I'm enjoying it so much. I installed Tiger yesterday and it's great. Right now as I'm typing this I'm installing the trial version of iWork.
